At Galois
As the Systems Administrator at Galois, I manage nearly every aspect of IT. My duties include specifying, installing, and maintaining all supported computing platforms: versions of Microsoft Windows, Macintosh OS X, Linux, Solaris, and Cisco switches and routers. Core applications for which I'm responsible include e-mail, shared filesystems, virtual private networking, remote desktop service, web services, and corporate calendaring. I also have occasion to provide IT support to specific engineering and administrative projects like setting up a group of Xen-enabled development servers and coding data-aggregation applications.
My Background
My background prior to coming to Galois included stints in both academia and the private sector. Administration on educational networks at the Oregon Graduate Institute of Science and Technology provided good experience in supporting a research environment, while work with corporate networks grounded me in business and production systems. Before moving into IT, I was a professional church worker, an experience that helped me see how important friendly and honest communications are in any community. I've been a contributing member of the Portland Linux/Unix user group since 1997. I've attended several O'Reilly Open Source Conferences and an EDUCAUSE security conference for academic network executives and administrators.
