Do you want to lead the development of the next generation of embedded systems that transform how we interact with the physical world? Do you want to make secure cloud computing a reality? Can you help us develop and exploit secure, ubiquitous networked devices?
Galois has a position open for a senior computer scientist in our Portland office. This individual will support existing research programs and internal research and development efforts and provide technical leadership in the development of new capabilities and business opportunities. Such leadership may include development of new R&D efforts and expansion of existing efforts. The candidate should be an experienced and recognized researcher in the field capable of envisioning, designing and leading new R&D efforts and large, complex programs.
In this role, you will shape significant research agendas, communicate value propositions and goals to customers and partners, develop licensable technology and prepare proposals to continue development of ambitious leading edge capabilities. We are seeking a leading domain expert in advanced computing. Some domain areas of interest follow below.
- Embedded systems (cyber-physical)
- Hardware (FPGAs, CPU architectures, etc.)
- Systems software (operating systems, networking, protocols, etc.)
Candidates must have a successful record of proposal authoring and project leadership/management experience and must be able to demonstrate success in a position having frequent client and agency contact in a decision-making role. Excellent technical writing, verbal communication, and public speaking skills are essential. The ability to prepare scopes of work and cost estimates, as well as to meet scope, schedule, and budget obligations is necessary.
We strongly prefer education in Computer Science or a closely related field:
- Ph.D. + relevant experience in a research and development role
- Master's degree + 5 years of experience in a research and development role
- Bachelor's degree + 14 years of experience in a research and development role
Additionally, a strong programming background and experience with Haskell or other functional programming languages is preferred. The successful candidate must work well with customers, including building rapport, identifying needs, and communicating with strong written, verbal and presentation skills. He/she must also be highly motivated and able to self-manage to deadlines and quality goals. A track record of working with industry and/or commercialization partners is also strongly preferred.
Our engineers work with functional languages, designing and developing advanced technologies for safety and security-critical systems, networks, and applications.
